New Student Orientation
As the month of July winds down, the excitement of a new semester rises. August will bring the start of a new semester on the Campus of Oakland City University where many new students will enter to Learn and go forth to serve. Alongside the many traditions of OCU, new student orientation is one of the favorite memories of most graduates. New Student Orientation (NSO) is one of the biggest events on Campus where all new students get acquainted with the OCU Campus, meet new friends, and experience the best of what OCU has to offer.
During New Student Orientation, Students will participate in an assortment of fun activities and experiences that will last a lifetime! Many of the new students are in small groups led by experienced orientation leaders who guide and show them around campus. One signature event during new student orientation includes a presentation by Dr. Stephen Gray, a well-known speaker who will create a community out of strangers! A campus community service day is also carried out during orientation where OCU assists many projects within the Oakland City Area. Students enjoy painting bridges and serving the local churches and community. Orientation also allows students to meet many faculty and staff for the first time. An exclusive Ice-cream social also takes place allowing your group the opportunity to meet President Dempsey!
Alongside the Festivities, Students meet their Student Government and Community Engagement Representatives, and learn how to be connected during their first year at OCU. Many opportunities exist for students to win major prizes such as TV’s and minifridges! Drawings exist daily, with many gift cards and other prizes being awarded to help our new students. At the end of the New Student Orientation, the campus community will enjoy the Fall Kickoff Celebration featuring games, inflatables, music and more!
